Mission
Our mission at Scarlett & Sage Education Center is to provide a high-quality education for all Cosmetology students in accordance with the Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists. We will prepare them to pass all examinations and guide them in the cosmetology industry by guaranteeing that we are providing outstanding support, and creating an equal and fair work environment inside of the classroom and job placement outside of the classroom. We believe in bringing out the best in everyone and changing lives in and around us and our community.
Education Center
We are located at 301 East Main, in the quaint town of Remington, VA. We are on the third floor and have approximately 2000 square feet of space. The facility is equipped with an elevator and is handicapped accessible. There is a private parking lot in the back of the building as well as ample parking across the street. We are well equipped with modern salon furnishings and operate as a fully functioning salon. There is a break room, kitchenette and bathroom available as necessary. Students are asked to keep all items with them at all times or will be provided a station where they may keep their items. The facility is well lit and has three exit doors leading directly to stairs and the elevator in case of emergency. The school will take students on a 15-week increment. We are currently only accepting daytime hours, however, we are able to add you to our waitlist for part-time, night, and weekend hours upon request.
Courses
Currently taught in English and in-person only. Our program at Scarlett & Sage Education Center is 4 days a week and takes approximately 14 months to complete. Cosmetology: Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) 39-5012.00 Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) Code 12.0401 The curriculum involves 1500 hours to satisfy Virginia State
Requirements.
The course includes extensive instruction and practical experience in cutting, hair coloring, perming, customer service, personal appearance and hygiene, personal motivation and development, retail skills, client record keeping, business ethics, sanitation, state laws and regulations, salon-type administration and job interviewing. *Students are prepared for an entry level cosmetologist position Students will be required to clock in and out as a method of tracking hours, it is the student’s responsibility to make this a priority. All exams must be taken on-site, in a “traditional brick and mortar” classroom
Practical:
Each student will be provided an iPad. We will use Notability, Quizlets and Google Docs to provide weekly and quarterly worksheets, including State Board worksheets. Students will also be provided an electronic worksheet with the procedures (procedure sheets) that must be completed in accordance with the State Board. Each time a task is complete the student is to take a picture using the provided iPad and have an instructor check the procedure and mark it as complete. In addition, students will be required to complete a certain number of procedures weekly and will be graded according to the requirement for the week. These sheets must be completed by the due date. Students will be tested weekly, or bi-weekly and are to utilize all methods given them to study.
Theory:
Each student will be provided an iPad. We will use Notability, Quizlets and Google Docs to provide weekly, monthly and quarterly worksheets, quizzes and tests. For the theory portion we will be using MILADY cosmetology workbook and textbooks. We will study and review the text at the beginning of each day. Instructors will provide all instruction through multiple methods of teaching and be sure to use all learning methods (hearing, seeing, doing) in their teaching. Students will be tested weekly or biweekly and are to utilize all methods given them to study as the test will measure the students’ performance and understanding at each subject/level of the program.
Classroom Hours
Classroom Hours will be: Monday and Wednesday 9:00am-2:30 PM Tuesday and Thursday 9:00am- 5:00PM First Friday of the month the school will be open 9:00am-2:30pm for make-up hours and extra assistance
Tuition
Registration fee $100.00 - nonrefundable
Salon Kit- $2100- nonrefundable
MILADY textbook- $300
Tuition- $15,880
Methods of payment: • Full payment at time of enrollment • Cash, check, credit card -credit cards will be charged a convenience fee • Personal financing, personal loan, government assistance • Approved Payment Plan
We do offer a payment plan for students who do not qualify for any assistance and are self-pay. A deposit of $1600.00 must be made at time of enrollment and the remainder of the balance will be divided into 12 months. Payment must be made in full before graduating. If payments are more than 30 days late, you will be asked to make payments before returning to school. If this causes you to lose clocked hours, you must make up all hours and all work before graduating.
Admissions
Each student will need to provide a written essay, resume and attend an in-person interview before being accepted. Students must hold a High School Diploma or equivalent to be accepted into the program. Home school students Home school students are not considered to have a high school diploma or equivalent but those who have completed their schooling and meet the age requirements are eligible to attend with documentation of high school completion
Financial Aid
At this time the school does not offer financial aid through any specific organization.
Financial solutions we do offer/suggest:
• We have a scholarship program, up to 75% of your tuition may be covered. Please contact an administrator for more information. Scholarship opportunities are limited. • Personal loan, outside of the school. • Government funding for education, please check with your local Social Services department. • Payment plans on full tuition or left-over balance • Scarlet and Sage Education Center is Affiliated with Scarlet and Sage Hair Salon. There may be possible opportunities to join our team through an Apprenticeship program, if employment is available. Apprenticeship programs take significantly longer to obtain a license. However, your level of education will be the same.
